Komkrit Tepthian is known for the use of Lego parts in his works. His Buddha head sculptures made of these interlocking plastic bricks replace the original sacred heads which have been pillaged and sold to foreigners. The work depicts pressing issues surrounding the values of ancient objects and commercialization of artifacts. Inspired by hybridized stone deities and Chinese warriors sent to Siam from China, Komkrit reinvented his own creation of Sino-Siamese mixture. Adapting the legend of In and Chan, the Siamese twin, he incorporated gigantic figures of Yaksa and the Chinese warrior as new icons of Sino-Thai friendship. In Komkrit’s Garuda, the half birdman creature is metamorphosed with plastic bricks pieces made in China. He also created diminutive toys of sages riding mythological animals that look like superheroes full of adventure.

Remarks: Komkrit’s Giant Twins and Arun Garuda will be moved away and stored for the Royal Kathin ceremony and will be reinstalled on Monday the 5th of November 2018.

ศิลปินร่วมสมัยชาวไทย ที่เป็นที่รู้จักจากการใช้ชิ้นส่วนเลโก้ในการทำงานศิลปะ โดยเฉพาะการต่อเป็นเศียรพระพุทธรูป แทนที่เศียรเดิมที่โดนลักลอบตัดไปขายให้กับชาวต่างชาติ งานของเขาสะท้อนประเด็นปัญหาเกี่ยวกับคุณค่าของวัตถุโบราณและการทำให้วัตถุเหล่านี้กลายเป็นสินค้าเพื่อการซื้อขาย ด้วยแรงบันดาลใจจากรูปปั้นหินนักรบจีนโบราณและทวยเทพลูกผสมระหว่างมนุษย์กับสัตว์ที่จีนส่งมาให้สยาม งานศิลปะของคมกฤษที่ถูกสร้างขึ้นมาใหม่จึงเป็นส่วนผสมระหว่างจีนกับสยาม ผ่านการดัดแปลงตำนานของฝาแฝดสยามอินจัน ศิลปินนำเอารูปร่างมหึมาของยักษาและลักษณะของนักรบจีนมาควบรวม และสร้างสัญรูปที่เป็นตัวแทนความสัมพันธ์ไทย-จีน เขายังใช้ชิ้นส่วนเลโก้ที่ผลิตขึ้นในประเทศจีนในการสร้างผลงาน ‘ครุฑ’ ประติมากรรมสิ่งมีชีวิตครึ่งคนครึ่งนก คมกฤษยังสร้างชุดของเล่นขนาดจิ๋วอันประกอบไปด้วยเหล่านักปราชญ์ขี่สัตว์ในเทพนิยายที่ดูราวกับกลุ่มซุปเปอร์ฮีโร่ออกผจญภัย
