Eisa Jocson

Eisa Jocson is a contemporary choreographer and dancer from the Philippines. Trained as a visual artist, with a background in ballet, she won her first pole-dancing competition in Manila in 2010.

Her 3 solo works; Death of the Pole Dancer 2011, Macho Dancer 2013, and Host 2015 toured extensively in major festivals worldwide, including Impulstanz Vienna 2013, Noorderzon, Groningen 2013 & 2015, Tanz im August, Berlin 2013 & 2015, Zurich Theater Spektakel 2012 & 2013 & 2015, Theatre der Welt 2014, and Asia Triennial of Performing Arts, Melbourne 2017. The 3 solos have been presented as a trilogy in LIVEWORKS festival in Sydney 2016 and Counterpulse festival & SF MOMA in San Francisco 2016.Macho Dancer won the Zürcher Kantonalbank Acknowledgement Prize 2013. She then had her first solo exhibition; Philippine Macho Academy (2014) in Vargas Museum, University of the Philippines.

From pole to macho dancing to hostess work, Eisa has investigated the labor and representations of the dancing body in the service industry, and exposed identity and gender formation, seduction politics, and Filipino social mobility.

In her new creation, HAPPYLAND series 2017, Princess is a duet with Filipino performance artist Russ Ligtas and Your Highness is a collaboration with 5 dances from Ballet Philippines. This series is a continuation of her investigation into Filipino labor, performance of happiness, and production of fantasy within the happiness empire. Princess has been selected as one of the outstanding contemporary productions for the 2018 edition of Tanzplattform in Germany.

ไอซ่า จ๊อคสัน เป็นนักออกแบบท่าเต้นและนักเต้นอาชีพชาวฟิลิปปินส์ เรียนจบด้านทัศนศิลป์ และมีพื้นฐานการเต้นบัลเลต์ ก่อนจะที่ฝึกฝนการเต้นในหลายประเภท เธอชนะการแข่งขันเต้นรูดเสา หรือ Pole Dance ครั้งแรกในปีพ.ศ. 2553 จากการเต้นจินตลีลาโดยใช้เสาเป็นส่วนประกอบหลัก มาถึงการเต้นที่แสดงความแข็งแรงของกล้ามเนื้อและจิตใจ นั่นคือ มาโช แดนซ์ ไอซ่า สนใจเรื่องของชนชั้นแรงงาน, การใช้เรือนร่างในงานบริการ, อัตลักษณ์และเพศสภาพ, การเมืองและการย้ายถิ่นฐานของชาวฟิลิปปินส์ในสังคมยุคใหม่ 

ผลงานการแสดงเดี่ยวชุดสำคัญของเธอ ได้แก่ Death of the Pole Dancer (2554), Macho Dancer (2556 ) และ Host (2559) ได้ตระเวณออกแสดงในหลายเทศกาลสำคัญรวมไปถึง  Impulstanz เวียนนา (2556), Noorderzon, Groningen (2556 และ 2558), Tanz im August, เบอร์ลิน (2556 และ 2558), Zurich Theater Spektakel (2555, 2556 และ 2558), Theatre der Welt (2557), Asia Triennial of Performing Arts, เมลเบอร์น (2560) และการแสดงเดี่ยว 3 ชุดนี้ ถูกนำเสนอแบบไตรภาคใน เทศกาล LIVEWORKS ซิดนีย์ ออสเตรเลีย และ ที่ Counterpulse festival, SF MOMA ในซานฟรานซิสโก ในปี พ.ศ. 2559

งานชุด Macho Dancer  คือการแสดงออกถึงความแข็งแรงของกล้ามเนื้อ และศิลปินได้ออกแบบท่าเต้นจนได้รับรางวัล Zürcher Kantonalbank Acknowledgement Prize ปี 2556 จากนั้นหนึ่งปีเธอก็ได้มีนิทรรศการเดี่ยวชื่อ Philippine Macho Academy 2014 ที่ Vargas Museum มหาวิทยาลัยฟิลิปปินส์

ผลงานการแสดงชุดล่าสุด HAPPYLAND Series (2017) แบ่งเป็นตอน Princess ที่เธอแสดงร่วมกับศิลปินสื่อแสดงสดชาวฟิลิปปินส์  รัส ลิกทัส และ Highness ร่วมกับ 5 นักเต้นบัลเลต์จากคณะบัลเล่ต์ฟิลิปปินส์ โดยการแสดงชุดนี้ศิลปินยังคงเจาะลึกเพื่อหาคำตอบในการใช้ชีวิตของชนชั้นแรงงานชาวฟิลิปปินส์ ที่สามารถมีความสุขกันได้ในโลกส่วนตัวที่สร้างขึ้น ซึ่งแตกต่างจากโลกแห่งความจริงโดยสิ้นเชิง การแสดงตอน Princess นี้ ยังได้รับเลือกให้เป็นผลงานร่วมสมัยดีเด่นของ Tanzplattform ปี 2551 ประเทศเยอรมัน
