Good Girls Go to Heaven, Bad Girls Go Everywhere

Good Girls Go to Heaven, Bad Girls Go Everywhere

The installation work of Imhathai in BAB2018 comprises of a set of two light boxes, one on the wall and the other on the floor. The artist took inspiration from the living experience of sex workers in Chiang Mai. First in the set, ‘No More Sewing Machine’, features parts of used sewing machines wrapped in hand-woven knits made from hair of those workers. It symbolizes happiness assumed by the society or those involved in organising alternative jobs for sex workers. Another piece displays thousands of moth wings glued on top of a light box with a phrase written ‘Good Girls Go to Heaven, Bad Girls Go Everywhere’, also the piece’s title, as if heaven solely belongs to ‘good’ people. These materials: hair and moth wings signify the vulnerability of life. Both works begin and end with questions.
