Chumpon Apisuk is one of the pioneers of Thailand’s performance art scene. His performances are widely known for the issues of discrimination, human rights and AIDS they address. In ‘I Have Dreams,’ Chumpon takes on the taboo subject of Thai and migrant sex workers. By interviewing more than a dozen women on video in Chiang Mai, Chumpon collects different views of their dreams and pursuits for bliss in life. The stigma on sex workers and prostitutes has many levels of socioeconomic input. To these workers, it is a profession to earn income and send money to poor family members. It is a form of happiness and merit making. At times, they face anti-trafficking law, raids and imprisonment. After all, the notorious nocturnal tourist entertainment brings enormous income and GDP to the Land of Smiles. In ‘Mida Tapestry’ (2011),embroidery made by migrant sex workers record a police raid at Mida Karaoke in Chiang Mai.

ผลงานของจุมพลเป็นที่รู้จักอย่างมากในการเคลื่อนไหวรณรงค์เรื่องโรคเอดส์ สิทธิมนุษยชน และการเหยียดชนชาติ ในผลงาน ‘I Have Dreams’ จุมพลหยิบเอาประเด็นต้องห้ามเรื่องผู้ค้าบริการทางเพศชาวไทยและชนกลุ่มน้อยมาพูดถึง โดยศิลปินทำการสัมภาษณ์ผู้หญิง 14 คนในเชียงใหม่และทำการอัดวิดีโอที่จับภาพพวกเธอขณะพูดถึงความฝันและการตามหาความสุขในชีวิต บาดแผลของผู้ประกอบอาชีพให้บริการทางเพศเกิดขึ้นในหลายระดับของแง่มุมทางเศรษฐศาสตร์สังคม สำหรับพวกเธอแล้วนี่คืออาชีพที่พวกเธอต้องทำเพื่อสร้างรายได้และส่งเงินกลับไปจุนเจือครอบครัวที่ยากจน ซึ่งพวกเธอมองว่ามันเป็นความสุขและการทำความดีรูปแบบหนึ่ง บางครั้งพวกเธอต้องเจอกับกฎหมายต่อต้านการค้ามนุษย์ การบุกจับของเจ้าหน้าที่และการถูกส่งเข้าคุก ไม่ว่าอย่างไรก็ตาม ธุรกิจกลางคืนอันฉาวโฉ่และเต็มไปด้วยด้านมืดก็ยังเป็นแหล่งรายได้ชั้นดีให้กับประเทศสยามเมืองยิ้มแห่งนี้ ใน ‘Mida Tapestry’ (2554) ผลงานฝีมือการปักผ้าของผู้ค้าบริการทางเพศชนกลุ่มน้อยบันทึกเอาเรื่องราวของการบุกทลายร้านคาราโอเกะชื่อว่า Mida ของตำรวจในเชียงใหม่
