After graduating in ceramic art from Silpakorn University, Nino Sarabutra spent almost 20 years working as an advertising creative for several agencies before finally beginning her path as a full-time artist. In her exhibitions ‘What Will You Leave Behind’ she scattered over 100,000 pieces of ceramic skulls on the exhibition grounds and invited viewers to feel their fragility with their own feet.

At Bangkok Art Biennale, Nino’s site-specific installation with 125,000 unglazed skulls are placed around the corridors at the gateway to the white bell-shaped stupa at Wat Prayoon. Rather than being morbid, Nino invites viewers to circumambulate along the white walkway where cremated ashes are stacked. It is a life-affirming question to ask every day, “If today was your last on earth, what will you leave behind?”

หลังจบการศึกษาด้านศิลปะเครื่องเคลือบดินเผา จากคณะมัณฑนศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร นีโน่ ใช้เวลาเกือบ 20 ปี ในฐานะครีเอทีฟงานโฆษณาในหลายบริษัท ก่อนจะมาเริ่มต้นทำงานศิลปะอย่างเต็มตัวและเปิดสตูดิโอของตัวเอง เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2549 เธอเริ่มเป็นที่สนใจในแวดวงศิลปะจากงานนิทรรศการ ‘What Will You Leave Behind’ ทีจัดขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2556 ในไทยและสิงคโปร์ โดยเธอนำกระดูก ชิ้นเล็กๆ ที่ทำจากเซรามิกกว่า 100,000 ชิ้น มาโปรยกระจายลงบนห้องนิทรรศการให้เราได้ใช้ฝ่าเท้าสัมผัสถึงความเปราะบางของมัน

ในบางกอก อาร์ต เบียนนาเล่ ครั้งนี้ เธอโปรยเซรามิกหัวโหลกกว่า 125,000 ชิ้นบนทางเดินรอบเจดีย์องค์ประธานของวัดประยุรวงศาวาส ให้เป็นงานศิลปะจัดวางเฉพาะพื้นที่ที่จะกระตุ้นให้ผู้คนที่เดินบนทางนั้นได้ฉุกคิดว่า “ถ้าวันนี้เป็นวันสุดท้ายของชีวิต คุณจะทำความดีอะไรทิ้งไว้บนโลกใบนี้”
