One of the veteran female artists of the Thai contemporary art scene, Sriwan Janehattakarnkit’s artistic repertoire encompasses works of painting, printmaking and sculpture expressed through a vibrant use of colors and forms. Her early work is famous for paintings of people in the nightlife world with faces and silhouettes possessing striking visuals of superimposed forms and colorful outlines.

After retirement, Sriwan moved to Mae Sai Chiang Rai where she has a studio. She donates her time for creating religious art at temples and organizing workshops for children. ‘Dharma, Nature and Normality’ is a series of paintings of beautiful skeletons and bones related to non-self and suffering. Humans longing for happiness by satiate themselves with selfishness which is the cause of suffering. For her, emptiness and death, is a way to discover peaceful happiness.

ศิลปินหญิงที่อยู่ในวงการศิลปะไทยมาอย่างยาวนาน เธอจบการศึกษาจากคณะจิตรกรรม ประติมากรรม และภาพพิมพ์ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร สร้างผลงานศิลปะในรูปแบบจิตรกรรม ภาพพิมพ์ และประติมากรรม ที่มีการใช้รูปทรงและสีสันฉูดฉาด ในยุคต้นๆ ผลงานที่เป็นที่รู้จักและสร้างชื่อเสียงให้กับศรีวรรณอย่างมากคือ ภาพเขียนคนเมืองในโลกแห่งแสงสีและมายายามราตรี ที่มีใบหน้าและโครงร่างซ้อนทับกันไปมาด้วยสีฉูดฉาด

หลังจากเกษียณจากการเป็นอาจารย์สอนศิลปะในหลายสถาบัน เธอย้ายไปใช้ชีวิตและทำงานศิลปะที่แม่สาย จังหวัดเชียงราย โดยใช้เวลาส่วนใหญ่ไปกับการเขียนจิตรกรรมฝาผนังถวายเป็นพุทธบูชา ณ โบสถ์วัดป่ายาง (ดอยสะโงะ) และเปิดเวิร์กช็อปศิลปะให้กับเด็กๆ ผลงาน ‘Dharma, Nature and Normality’ เป็นชุดภาพจิตรกรรมโครงกระดูกที่สื่อถึงสภาวะไร้ตัวตนและไร้ซึ่งความเจ็บปวด ทุกวันนี้มนุษย์เราแสวงหาความสุขอย่างไร้ขอบเขตและเห็นแก่ตัว ซึ่งนั่นเองที่เป็นสาเหตุของความทุกข์ สำหรับเธอแล้ว ความว่างเปล่าและความตายเป็นหนทางสู่ความสุขสงบ
