Phaptawan Suwannakudt grew up in a family of artists. Her father, Paiboon Suwannakudt, was a pioneering Thai master artist. She followed in his footsteps and pursued mural painting before moving to Australia in 1996. Her works later shifted to focus on identity, displacement and homeland. Still, her references to the life of Buddha and the Three Worlds remain part of storytelling.

Her site-specific multi-component installation at the enclosed cloister at Sra Jorakae (Crocodile Pond) at Wat Pho draws on epigraphic archives related to medical practice, design, literature, music, herbal massage and astrology. If knowledge is a path towards bliss, Phaptawan has returned home to Wat Pho to find herself in the creative realm that would make her father proud.

ภาพตะวันเติบโตมาในครอบครัวที่ทำงานจิตรกรรมไทยประเพณี โดยมีบิดา ไพบูลย์ สุวรรณกูฏ ผู้บุกเบิกจิตรกรรมฝาผนังไทยยุคใหม่เป็นต้นแบบและสืบสานงานแทนบิดามาหลายปี จนกระทั่งเธอย้ายไปอยู่ที่ประเทศออสเตรเลียในปีพ.ศ. 2539 หลังจากที่ย้ายมาอยู่ออสเตรเลีย ผลงานของเธอเปลี่ยนไปเน้นเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับตัวตน บ้านเกิด และการจาก ถิ่นฐาน รวมถึงการใช้รูปและสัญลักษณ์ที่เกี่ยวข้อง กับพุทธศาสนา เช่น พุทธประวัติของพระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า ไตรภูมิ

ชุดผลงานศิลปะจัดวางขนาดใหญ่ของเธอที่กุฏิ บริเวณสระจระเข้ในวัดโพธิ์ สัมพันธ์กับภูมิปัญญาด้านต่างๆ ทั้งทางการแพทย์ งานออกแบบ วรรณกรรม บทประพันธ์ การนวดสมุนไพร และโหราศาสตร์ หากความรู้เป็นหนทางสู่ความสุข การทำงานครั้งนี้ได้พาศิลปินกลับไปสู่จุดเริ่มต้นของเธอที่วัดโพธิ์ท่ามกลางงานศิลปกรรมและความคิดสร้างสรรค์ ซึ่งแน่นอนว่าคงสร้างความภาคภูมิใจให้กับพ่อของเธอที่ล่วงลับไปแล้วได้ไม่น้อย
