Marc Schmitz is a curator and artist. His work ranges from painting, video and conceptual art to large-scale installations for viewers to interact with. In ‘Shelter from the Stars’, Schmitz creates a site-specific sculpture for the garden in Bangkok that evokes sanctuary and solitude. For him, blank spaces reveal alternate possibilities for human experience in urban zones through a shelter . A shelter from destructive calamity and polluted mind. Look up to the stars to renaturalize culture and stop damage and prejudices. In contrast, a neon work ‘We look after your Sex’ is a critique on advertisement in consumer society that controls our taste and behavior. This sentence fits appropriately with the Thai-style comment ‘No Money, No Honey’.
